An Indian Folklore
Once upon a time, two fevers left their place, took the train and got down at the railway station of a big city. One of them thought of catching hold of a poor man while the other one decided to take on a rich well-to-do man.
Fever number one seized a daily wage coolie who worked in the godown of a big wholesale trader. When this worker was possessed by fever, he thought if he took to bed and didn’t work, what would he and his family eat? This family subsisted on his daily earnings. He entered the godown and started carrying sacks full of grain from one storeroom to another until he began to sweat profusely, with the result that his fever left him and, although weakened a bit, he recovered.
Fever number two loosened his grip over the rich man he had seized in the evening and strolled over to the railway station where he met Fever number one. They were pleased to see each other and got into a conversation like this:
Fever number one said, “Look, brother, I got involved with a man who made me carry sacks of grain from morning to evening and drove me to insufferable exhaustion and madness. I’ve reached here somehow, I swear I’ll never go near a man like that again.”
Fever number two laughed and replied, “I had a wonderful time. The moment I entered this man’s home and got hold of him, a comfortable cushy bed was got ready and fan was put on and a feast was laid on a table by the side of the bed. It had apples and pomegranates and oranges and grapes and milk garnished with almonds and cardamom. And a doctor came. Then another doctor was called. Several people collected around the bed. I came out just to get some fresh air.”
Fever number one: “I had a real bad time. What do you advise? Whom should I seize now?”
Fever number two : “Who else? Let both of us go and get hold of this rich man. There is so much fun there.”
And both Fever number one and Fever number two walked to the rich man’s house.
Sometimes our physical diseases are given too much importance and thus they feel pampered and they linger. In the subtle world of energy, of which our body is a mere physical manifestation, many activities are going on of which we are unaware. Today we see people are giving excessive importance to diseases. It is possible that diseases are feasting upon all our attention and we are increasingly becoming mere puppets in the hands of many “experts” that just add to the already existing chaos in our being.
