It goes like this:

Four people were given a piece of money.

The first was a Persian. He said: “I will buy with this some Angur.”

The second was an Arab. He said: “No, because I want Inab.”

The third was a Turk. He said: “I want Stafil.”

Because they did not know what lay behind the names of things, these four started to fight. They had information but no knowledge.

One man of wisdom, one true interpreter, could have reconciled them all by saying: “The needs of all of you can be fulfilled with one and the same piece of money. Your one coin will become as four; and four at odds will become as one united.”

Such a man would know that each in his own language wanted the same thing – GRAPES.

Just like languages are different but the meaning is the same, similarly paths are different but the Destination is the same. The One manifests in the Many.

Once the grapes are received and experienced, one knows that the Truth is One.

True Knowledge can only come from one’s own experience. Information without “truly knowing” can bring a sense of possession and superiority and lead to meaningless egoistic clashes.

One who has the True Knowledge, like the interpreter, would be able to flow freely in the diversity and yet see the Oneness in diversity.

This is an allegory from Rumi’s Mathnawi.
